EDIL NOZZI S.R.L. carries out masonry consolidation, ring beams, floor structures, reinforced concrete and structural steel, working to a design drawn up and signed by a qualified technician. We build; the calculations, the filings and the site supervision stay with the technician you appoint.
What we build, and whose design we build to
EDIL NOZZI S.R.L., a building contractor based in Torrevecchia Teatina in the province of Chieti, carries out structural works on existing buildings and on new construction, always to a structural design drawn up and signed by a qualified technician appointed by the client.
In practice that means taking the drawings, the calculations and the details and turning them into built work: propping, formwork, reinforcement cut and fixed to the bar schedule, pours, curing times, and the tolerances the design sets. On an existing building it also means the slow part — opening up, propping, and establishing what the wall is actually made of before anything is cut.
It also means a stated limit. We do not calculate structures, we do not design them, and we do not sign the filings that authorise them. A single supplier offering design, filing, supervision and execution in one package is removing the one person whose job is to check the builder.
Scope
The works we carry out
These are the structural works EDIL NOZZI S.R.L. carries out, and each one presupposes a drawing that specifies it and a supervisor who checks it.
- Consolidation of load-bearing masonry, by the method the design specifies: repointing, scuci-cuci (replacing damaged stones or bricks one at a time), reinforced renders.
- Cuciture armate — steel bars grouted into drilled holes to stitch cracks and reconnect walls that have pulled apart.
- Consolidation grout injections into rubble-core and double-leaf walls, with the specified mixes and pressures the masonry can take.
- Cordoli — ring beams at wall head and at floor level, in reinforced concrete or reinforced masonry as designed.
- New lintels and new openings in load-bearing walls, with the propping and temporary works the operation requires.
- Floors (solai): rebuilding, stiffening, replacing the joist structure, and structural toppings that act together with the existing deck.
- Reinforced concrete: foundations, columns, beams, shear walls, stair flights and landings.
- Structural steel: beams, portal frames, local strengthening and bracing, erected to shop drawings.
- Underpinning (sottofondazioni) and strengthening of existing foundations, worked in short alternating bays with the specified curing times.
- Ties and tie-rods against wall overturning, with bar or plate pattress anchors.
Responsibility
Who signs what
The structural design and the calculations belong to the qualified technician the client appoints: EDIL NOZZI S.R.L. neither produces them nor signs them. That technician is on a professional register, is personally answerable for what they sign, and is paid directly by the client under an appointment separate from our building contract.
The deposit or authorisation lodged with the competent office is the technician's as well. Structural work on an existing building is normally filed before it starts, and it is the technician who prepares and signs that submission. We do not lodge it, and we do not open the site until it exists.
The direzione dei lavori — the site supervision appointment — is also the client's, and its subject is our execution. The supervisor represents the person paying against the contractor: they check that what is built matches what was designed, order the concrete test cubes, reject work that does not conform, and sign each stage certificate before it is invoiced.
What belongs to us is the execution and the proof of how it was done: the materials used, the way they were installed, and the record of what ends up inside the structure where nobody can inspect it again.
This separation is not paperwork for its own sake. It exists so that the person checking the work is not the person paid to carry it out, and it protects the client far more than any statement of quality. Ing. Ivan Nozzi practises independently from the same address and we work together often, but engaging us places no obligation whatsoever to engage him, and the reverse is equally true: the technician is your choice.
Handover
What we hand over
EDIL NOZZI S.R.L. hands over the documentation of a structural job while the site is still open, because almost none of it remains verifiable once the work has been covered.
- Material certificates and technical data sheets: reinforcement steel, concrete, mortars, resins, connectors and anchors, with CE marking and declarations of performance.
- Installation records: delivery notes, concrete delivery tickets, assistance with the test-cube sampling the supervisor orders, curing and striking times.
- A photographic record of every stage that ends up hidden — reinforcement before the pour, connections, anchorages, underpinning bays — dated and tied to its location.
- Whatever the direzione dei lavori needs for their own checks and certificates, supplied as the work proceeds rather than reconstructed at the end.
- A copy of all of it to you, not only to your technician. If you live abroad, that file is how you know what is inside your walls.
Seismic classification: the filing comes before the site
Much of Abruzzo falls within the higher seismic classifications, so structural work on an existing building normally requires a deposit or an authorisation at the competent office before the works begin, and it is the technician appointed by the client who prepares it. Anyone offering to open a load-bearing wall without one should be treated with caution: work carried out outside a filing cannot be closed with the final certificates, the irregularity stays attached to the building, and it resurfaces at the point of sale, when it is the owner who pays for it.

Can you take care of the structural design as well?
No. EDIL NOZZI S.R.L. is a building contractor: we carry out the works, we do not design them. The structural design, the calculations and the material specifications are the province of a qualified technician on a professional register, whom you appoint and pay directly under a contract separate from ours.
We build to the design of whichever technician you choose. If you do not have one yet, that is the first step, and we will tell you what to ask for so that quotes from different builders can actually be compared.
Is a filing really needed just to put a door through a load-bearing wall?
Normally yes. Forming an opening in a load-bearing wall changes the way the building carries its loads, and in a seismic zone it falls among the works that must be deposited or authorised at the competent office before they start.
The appointed technician classifies the intervention — local repair, improvement or full upgrading — and lodges the filing with the calculations. We open the site once the filing exists. Without it, the building carries a structural irregularity, and that is the most expensive kind to put right afterwards.
Who checks how you carry out the work?
The direttore dei lavori, the site supervisor, who is the technician appointed by the client and not by us. Site supervision exists precisely to represent the paying client against the contractor: it verifies that what is built matches the design, orders the concrete test cubes, rejects non-conforming work and signs the stage certificates.
Our job is to make that possible: material data sheets, delivery notes and photographs of the stages that get covered, available while the site is open and checking is still physically possible.
What do structural works cost?
There is no figure before a site visit and a computo metrico — the bill of quantities listing each operation with its quantity and unit rate. On an existing structure the heaviest item is almost never the pour itself: it is site access, the propping and temporary works, removal of spoil to a licensed facility, and the curing times that hold everything else still.
A number given before anyone has seen the building and read the design is a guess, and the difference emerges mid-contract.
What guarantees apply to structural works?
The guarantees are the ones Italian law attaches to any contractor, regardless of what a firm writes in its own advertising. Article 1667 of the Civil Code governs liability for defects and non-conformity in the works, with the notice and limitation periods it sets out. Article 1669 provides ten-year liability for serious defects affecting the structure or its fitness for use.
We do not present this as a commercial offer: it is a consequence of law. Insurance cover and its extent are settled in the contract.
